Taking my Nan flying post ppl
17 Sep 2009It was a perfect day weather wise, and my Nan (who is also in her 80’s like my Grandad), was around my house, so I decided to take her up for her first ever flight. My Dad decided to leave work early and come along too (any excuse!).
She is a little less mobile, so we asked the firefighters at the airport to give her a hand getting in, which I think she quite enjoyed. Dad then jumped in next to me in the front, and we went up for a short local flight.
Her house sits almost on the approach into runway 31, so she’d often seen me flying over from the garden. Now she was getting to see it from above for herself for the first time ever. As mentioned it was the first time she’d ever been in a plane, and it was something she never thought she’d ever get to do.
While we were in the air, the Flying school printed off a certificate for her which they usually give to people who’ve had a trial lesson. She now has it hanging up on her wall and proudly tells all the visitors to her house about the experience she had, so I think it’s safe to say she enjoyed it!
This was also the first time I’d flown G-BJCA without an instructor with me, so that means I’ve now flown all 4 of the flying school aircraft ‘solo’. It was also filmed by my Dad, so you can watch it all below!
