Lesson 18 PPL
31 May 2005The first of two lessons at Exeter international airport to get me familiar with the aerodrome and all the usual procedures there, ready for my solo flight in 11 days! There was a lot of cloud around but it was very high and did not affect us, there was little or no wind and flying conditions were absolutely perfect everything was very smooth and wtith weather like that, flying the circuits at Exeter seemed easy.
It was fun to see the looks on the faces of people sat in the back of a 737 taxiing out on it’s way down to Faro, Portugal, as I walked out onto the airfield with my instructor! Although while taxiing out myself, I remembered that the last time I was on that taxiway I was doing the same as them, but flying out to Tenerife!
I flew all of the circuits perfectly even though it was my first time behind the controls at Exeter, and every landing was quite smooth, (one I didn’t even feel the landing, just heard a slight screech as the wheels touched).
As mentioned I had two sessions scheduled to familiarize with the airport, but the weather for the second lesson wasn’t looking too good, and as it was one of the best lessons I’ve had, my instructor told me he would have been happy to let me go solo there and then, and didn’t really need the second session for him to be happy, so we decided that it was probably better to use that time to concentrate on passing my air law exam (which I needed to pass before being able to go solo anyway)
