Lesson 7 PPL
18 Jul 2004In this lesson I was shown how to do a full walkaround of the plane, which involves checking all of the control surfaces, and linkages, as well as the fuel and oil among other things to ensure the aircraft is all airworthy.
After that, we went up and did some more stalling exercises, mostly using flaps and power while in the stall. This is a much more common and potentially dangerous scenario for a stall to occur, in as it simulates the configuration the aircraft is in when when departing and landing at an airport, where your speeds are often lower. The recovery is much the same, apply power and drop the nose to increase the airflow.
In the Cessna 152, with flaps in and some power applied it actually takes quite a bit of back pressure on the controls in to get it to stall, but it is a bit more severe when it does!
I was also doing most of the talking on the radio in this lesson, there was only two or three times where I missed it and my instructor had to step in. We then came back over Yelverton and landed on runway 31. I pulled back a bit too hard again, but nothing un-safe, and my instructor did say once we were on that ground, that I am only a few lessons of (if I was old enough) going solo!
