Lesson 11 PPL

03 Oct 2004

This lesson was the first part my navigation briefing. As part of it I needed to buy around £100 worth of equipment, including a charts, rulers, ‘flight computer’, kneeboard among other things.

In the lesson I learned how to plan a basic route including things like the how to read the aviation charts, what the symbols meant, minimum safe altitudes etc, and a few other things like the difference between true and magnetic north.

Originally the plan was to do a quick flight too, but the weather was horrible so that wasn’t possible. It was a really interesting lesson though learning how to find your way around, as in all my previous flights my instructor had been giving me the headings and altitudes to fly.
